NERUC performs this project in accordance with the “program to support university initiatives for industry, academia and government cooperation (function strengthening support program)” endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in fiscal 2008.
This project aims to support a variety of voluntary programs that public and private universities undertake on their own initiative so that universities can sustainably pursue intellectual property strategy, which provides an impetus to stimulate innovation, and thereby improve cooperation between industry, academia and government on the whole.
NERUC is intensifying its efforts to manage and utilize intellectual property through cooperation between universities and local governments, promote intellectual property creation and utilization through collaboration between national, public and private universities, improve the way to manage and utilize intellectual property in specific fields such as life sciences, and provide support for putting novel ideas to practical use, including giving advice about starting up a business, training entrepreneurs to start up, and promoting cooperation with venture capital. As a result, the NERUC project has been approved as falling under the category of “promotion of distinctive and distinguished initiatives for industry, academia and government cooperation,” which is applicable to distinctive and distinguished initiatives undertaken by universities that pursue innovative intellectual property strategy.
*In fiscal 2010, the title of the MEXT program has been changed from the “strategic program for cooperation between industry, academia and government (strategic program)” to the “program to support university initiatives for industry, academia and government cooperation (function strengthening support program).”
